Breaking the Debt Cycle: Confronting Bad Money Habits Across Generations

YourUpdateTV

With interest rates continuing to skyrocket and outstanding revolving debt hitting $1 trillion dollars this year, money management and debt are hot topics that impact just about everyone. But do they affect everyone in the same way? Recently, Natalia Brown, Chief Client Operations Officer at National Debt Relief and Dasha Kennedy, Founder of The Broke Black Girl and member of National Debt Relief’s Financial Wellness Board, conducted a satellite media tour to talk about the impact of bad money habits on people’s financial health and give advice on how people can break free from these habits to secure a more secure financial future. A video accompanying this announcement is available at: https://youtu.be/bVwdo8OQHHw National Debt Relief conducted a survey of 2,000 U.S. adults evenly split by generation to look at the differences between their financial attitudes and experiences. Although younger generations are worried about older ones, “bad” money habits are common across the board. The goal is to create more open and honest conversation around debt to reduce feelings of shame and isolation that are often felt when people are in debt, and to identify common pitfalls and where more resources and help are needed. The survey conducted by OnePoll for National Debt Relief found that over 60% of people admitted to making poor decisions when it comes to money and 42% claimed they were going through current financial struggles. On the flipside, most people claim they have at least some information about how to develop better money habits, but over 50% haven’t incorporated them into their behaviors – so while people may be equipped with information, they may not know how to make it actionable and use it to make positive changes. Millennials seem to be more self-aware and responsible for their financial actions, with 71% owning up to their habits. And 45% of them say they are equipped with information to create better financial habits, which includes less traditional sources like influencers, podcasts and apps. They are also more actively using this knowledge than other generations. These findings validated the need for more actionable tools and resources, as well as guidance and accountability, something that National Debt Relief is on a mission to help with. Not only does National Debt Relief help people with their immediate debt, but they also support their clients in making behavioral changes that contribute to building a more secure financial future for themselves and their families. Across all generations, the most common money habits that contribute to a cycle of ongoing debt included writing off small purchases as insignificant (43%), gambling (39%) and using credit cards to pay bills (33%). When trying to break free from these and other bad money habits, the first step is to understand your financial situation. It’s important to get a full picture of your debt situation by creating a detailed list of all your debts, including their balances, interest rates, and minimum monthly payments. If your debt is overwhelming and you're struggling to manage it on your own, consider seeking help from a reputable resource like a debt settlement company or a financial advisor. They can provide guidance and may be able to help you negotiate with creditors. National Debt Relief offers a free consultation to anyone interested in learning more about or exploring debt settlement. They work with clients by taking the stress and hassle out of the process and negotiating with creditors on their behalf to lower the overall amount owed. Personalized payment plans are set up based on the client’s budget and debt is paid off in as little as 24-48 months. They also provide their clients with tools and guidance to help them change behaviors that contribute to their debt cycle so they can build stronger financial futures for themselves and their families. Once you have a plan, it’s important to stay committed. Try not to get discouraged by setbacks or slow progress because it does take time. Try to celebrate your achievements along the way to stay motivated. To get started on the path to financial stability, visit nationaldebtrelief.com or call +1 (800) 718-0487 for a free consultation. Longtime Greater Miami Jewish Federation President & CEO Jacob Solomon Announces Retirement

Greater Miami Jewish Federation

After more than four decades with the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, President & CEO Jacob Solomon has announced his plans to retire, effective June 30, 2024, according to the 85-year-old, Miami-based Jewish nonprofit. Solomon joined Federation in 1981 as a planning associate and rose to senior leadership positions in the organization, taking on the top executive role 11 years later. Since 1992, he has served in the position, guiding the raising and distribution of hundreds of millions of dollars to support humanitarian services and Jewish educational programs in Miami, in Israel and in more than 70 other countries worldwide. “This is a poignant moment for our Jewish community,” said Federation Board Chair Ariel Bentata. “Throughout his tenure, Jacob has helped shape Miami’s remarkable Jewish landscape. He has been widely revered as a compassionate, communal-minded and consensus-building professional with a passion for the Federation Mission. He has a deep love for Miami and Israel, as well as a steadfast commitment to Jewish peoplehood throughout the world. We truly owe him a debt of gratitude for his tireless leadership.” Richard D. Fain, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Royal Caribbean Group, has been appointed to lead the search for Solomon’s successor. Fain will head a volunteer search committee charged with the difficult task of identifying and recommending Federation’s next President and CEO through an exhaustive national search. “This is an incredibly important undertaking, and I am honored to have been entrusted with this responsibility,” said Fain. “Our search for Jacob’s successor will focus on finding a trusted leader who is poised for continued growth for our community and Jewish life in a compelling and meaningful way.” Solomon is one of the longest-serving CEOs in the North American Federation system. Under his leadership, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation has navigated through historic crises and opportunities, locally and internationally, including the release of a million Jews from the former Soviet Union, the rescue of tens of thousands of Jews from Ethiopia and other places at risk, the population shifts and transitions of Jewish Miami throughout the years, the building and expansion of infrastructure to serve Miami’s vibrant Jewish community and, most recently, the economic and human impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the disastrous Champlain Towers South collapse. Over the years, Solomon was also instrumental in the Miami Federation taking thousands of people to Israel through seven Mega Missions – including most recently taking more than 800 people in April 2023 – as well as countless smaller trips, strengthening the local community’s bond with the land and people of Israel. “The highlight of my career has been working with extraordinary philanthropists, gifted volunteer leaders and inspiring colleagues whose vision and dreams have been fueled by a shared desire to make our world a better place,” said Solomon. “I feel privileged and blessed to have had the opportunity to serve my community over these many years and I know the future is in good hands.” For more information about the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, visit JewishMiami.org or call 305.576.4000. The Mission of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation is to mobilize human and financial resources to care for those in need, strengthen Jewish life and advance the unity, values and shared purpose of the Jewish people in Miami, in Israel and around the world. Minuteman Press Franchise in Westlake, Ohio Moves to New Location, Expands Business

Minuteman Press International Inc

Jennet and Dan Foster are the owners of the Minuteman Press franchise in Westlake, Ohio. The family business first opened in 2004 and 19 years later, Jennet and Dan celebrated their relocation from North Olmsted to Westlake with a grand opening event on June 15, 2023. Minuteman Press in Westlake is located at 26145 Center Ridge Road, Unit A, Westlake, OH 44145. Expanding & Relocating the Business On the relocation, Jennet shares, “We acquired some new machines (Xante envelope press and Duplo cut, score, perf machine) and we were looking to expand. We first thought about expanding into the empty space next door and continuing to lease but then we decided to invest in ourselves instead and bought a commercial property. With room for the new equipment, we can offer in-house services that were previously vendor jobs, so the turnaround times on certain products is now even quicker for our clients.” Jennet continues, “Now, we have the space to expand even more. We just purchased a used booklet maker and will eventually add another color digital press. We also now have double doors, so we don't have to have pallets dropped on the sidewalk and disassemble them to bring them in. Our new facility also has more desk space for our staff. There are currently 5 people on our team and it’s been a great move! It was a little sad to leave North Olmsted but Westlake has welcomed us with open arms and we're happy to be here.” Reflecting on the grand opening, Jennet says, “The grand opening was held on June 15. We couldn't believe the number of people that attended. We had over 100 people and our giant parking lot was overflowing. It was packed inside and outside at the cornhole boards. The Chambers of Commerce that I'm involved with were fantastic in getting the word out. It was a great party that really came together nicely.” Growth & Getting Involved in the Community One key to growth has been Jennet’s community involvement. She shares, “I'm super involved with many organizations. I'm in four Chambers of Commerce including being on the board of one and different committee roles on the others. I am also a member of BNI as well as the National Association of Women Business Owners. In 2019, I did the 10,000 Small Businesses Program and that was really helpful in understanding different aspects of business. As a member of NAWBO, I do outreach to graduates of the program.” Jennet continues, “I am not just in these organizations, I am personally involved, which helps me get to know so many people. And it’s so true that people want to do business with people they know, like, and trust. We also advertise as a sponsor within these organizations and we advertise with direct mail to our customers and potential customers. You have to let people know about all of the products and services that you provide. Otherwise, how will they know that they need them?” She also credits the Minuteman Press support team for helping her business stay on track. Jennet says, “Last year, we were understaffed and had a family emergency. Both our RVP Rich DeRosa & field rep Ryan McIntyre were there for us to help out at the shop to keep things moving. It was a real lifesaver and very much appreciated. They have also helped with hiring and are also good to bounce ideas off of when you're considering new equipment, and they offer assistance when we need help with vendors. The FLEX software is great, too.” Minuteman Press Reflections As they approach 20 years in business as Minuteman Press owners, Jennet shares, “When we started Minuteman Press with my dad, Dan and I were just newlyweds. One of the things that has been wonderful for us about owning the business is that we can be there for our 3 kids. When they were younger, we were able to pop out in the middle of the day to help with a class party or read the class a story or whatever they needed. Today, they're now 13, 15, and 17. Having Minuteman Press as our business allows us to have that freedom to be there for our family.” It’s also clear that Jennet and Dan simply love what they do. She says, “What we love about this industry is helping our customers. They will come in with just an idea. We will then give a little guidance, design it, produce it, and wow them with the finished product, which they use to achieve their purposes.” She adds, “We love to watch our customers grow and succeed and we appreciate them letting us help them with that!” Minuteman Press in Westlake is located at 26145 Center Ridge Road, Unit A, Westlake, OH 44145. A Very Important Change Is Coming for Airplane Bathrooms

YourUpdateTV

A video accompanying this announcement is available at: https://youtu.be/g4fqkbuzqjA The Department of Transportation (DOT) is making larger single-aisle airplanes more accessible by requiring accessible lavatories for people with disabilities. While this rule will be implemented over the coming years, it is a monumental achievement for the disability civil rights movement. Under previous standards, people who use wheelchairs have no way to access the restroom on single-aisle aircraft. They are forced them to dehydrate themselves, or even soil themselves, before flights – causing major bodily harm! Over the past 75 years, Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) has led the fight for accessibility — and air travel is no different. PVA helped pass the landmark legislation to first make air travel accessible over 35 years ago, and they played an integral role in securing accessible airplane lavatories. They continue to advocate for additional reforms that will ensure a safe, dignified air travel experience for people with disabilities. So, what does this new rule mean for the future of accessible air travel? And what else is needed to make the air travel experience fully accessible for people with disabilities? Now is an opportunity for your audience to learn more about the new rule and the ways Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) has helped secure this monumental achievement, and how they continue to advocate for other meaningful reforms related to the upcoming renewal of the Federal Aviation Administration. A nationwide media tour was conducted featuring Chief Policy Officer at Paralyzed Veterans of America, Heather Ansley discussing the new lavatory rule and additional reforms that must be made to make air travel fully accessible through the reauthorization of the FAA. Additional topics that were discussed included: What the new Department of Transportation rules will do. What this means for the disability community. Why this DOT rule was desperately needed. The reasons why air travel is so far behind basic standards. What else needs to be done to ensure air travel is accessible. PVA remains on the forefront of the disability civil rights movement – fighting for stronger ADA enforcement, expanding support for home-based care, and more. To join PVA’s fight for greater enforcement of the ADA, visit PVA.org/ADA, or for air travel, visit PVA.org/AirTravel. About Paralyzed Veterans of America Paralyzed Veterans of America is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and the only congressionally chartered veterans service organization dedicated solely for the benefit and representation of veterans with spinal cord injury or diseases. The organization ensures veterans receive the benefits earned through service to our nation; monitors their care in VA spinal cord injury units; and funds research and education in the search for a cure and improved care for individuals with paralysis. As a life-long partner and advocate for veterans and all people with disabilities, PVA also develops training and career services, works to ensure accessibility in public buildings and spaces, and provides health and rehabilitation opportunities through sports and recreation. With more than 70 offices and 33 chapters, Paralyzed Veterans of America serves veterans, their families, and their caregivers in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The Good Patch Launches Limited-Edition Collection with The Art of Elysium

The Good Patch

The Good Patch announced today that they've launched a limited-edition patch collection, designed by artist Tasya van Ree, in support of nonprofit The Art of Elysium, which serves communities in need based upon the core belief that art heals. The Good Patch was created with one simple idea in mind: when the people around you feel good, life is more beautiful. Their wearable wellness patches go on when you need them and off when you don’t– offering complete control of your wellness. Whether you need to look alive, find your zen, or clock in some beauty sleep, The Good Patch has you covered. For over twenty-five years, The Art of Elysium has paired volunteer artists with communities in Los Angeles to support individuals in the midst of difficult emotional life challenges like illness, hospitalization, displacement, confinement, and/or crisis. They serve medically fragile children, teens, adults, seniors, those dealing with social, emotional and mental health issues, and the homeless. “The Art of Elysium’s mission to heal communities through the power of art really speaks to us here at The Good Patch. As a brand, our core belief is ‘when you feel good, life is more beautiful’ — so there are some real synergies. We are humbled to be able to support such a meaningful organization, as well as one of their volunteer artists, Tasya van Ree. The designs Tasya created for this unique collaboration remind us to appreciate the beauty each day has to offer. In this chaotic world we all live in, finding the beauty in art is one small (or big) way we can take a moment for ourselves to recharge, heal, and find inspiration,” said The Good Patch CEO Cedar Carter. The packaging of this limited-edition version of the brand’s best-selling B12 Awake Patch features a beautiful sun motif. Inside, the four patches feature a colorful variety of sun-inspired designs. The collection is available at TheGoodPatch.com beginning September 12th and on Amazon later in September. A limited time only bonus pack will also be available later this month, exclusively at Target stores. The bonus pack includes four original B12 Awake patches plus one free van Ree designed bonus patch, available while supplies last. "The SUN represents everything significant. It enriches and restores our time here in every way possible. It nurtures the body with the energetic flow of life force and has precise qualities to rejuvenate the mind, bringing light and importance to one’s daily life,” said artist van Ree on the inspiration behind the design. “At The Art of Elysium, our mission is to use art to heal, and empower artists and communities of need to join together, to emotionally triumph over their circumstances through art. The mission of The Good Patch is aligned in that they are also all about helping people feel good, one patch at a time. We are honored to have one of our artists, Tasya van Ree, design this limited-edition patch to unite both of our visions of improving the overall wellness and well-being of individuals in our community,” said The Art of Elysium Founder Jennifer Howell. RIP Wall Street vs. Main Street

Benzinga

Whenever the retail news talks about Wall Street vs. Main Street, I just chuckle. Wall Street vs. Main Street is long gone. The new market structure is entirely different now, with exciting new opportunities for retail traders and investors. The term “Wall Street” referred to the giant Sell-Side Institutions, the big banks and investment firms which once dominated the market. Big banks were the power and money behind most transactions. That dominance ended in 2008 with the banking debacle of that era. “Wall Street” has never been the same. Banks are struggling. Should you be worried? No. What you should be focused on are the Giant Buy-Side Institutions, which I call “the Dark Pools” since they transact orders on hidden Dark Pool venues. They are now the dominant force behind the scenes. They create a slow but massive liquidity draw when millions of shares of stock are bought slowly over time. This creates a huge hidden opportunity for both retail traders and investors. The Big Banks are always in the news. Not so with the Dark Pools, but they control 130 trillion dollars of assets under management worldwide. While the big banks’ revenue growth is eroding due to the growth of crypto currencies and all the variables of blockchain technology, the Dark Pools have been buying up huge quantities of the top crypto currencies to create new ETFs and other new investment and trading products. They are already making huge profits on these new derivatives. Peer-to-Peer transactions are growing in popularity. The banks’ role as intermediaries, as “vital and necessary to the global monetary system,” is in question. When all transactions are digital and the use of virtual wallets is the new normal, will we need banks as intermediaries for transactions between corporations, small businesses, consumers or government? Meanwhile, the Dark Pools manage the vast majority of 401(k)s and other retirement accounts. THEY are vital to the stability of the middle class of America. The Giant Buy-Side Institutions are usurping the big banks’ profitability from underwriting IPOs. The NASDAQ Private Market (NPM) is a new “professionals-only” stock market exchange where Buy-Side Institutions can invest in private companies much earlier in the cycle. Banks are no longer in control of which private companies will IPO, as the Buy-Side Institutions invest in these private companies via the NPM before they go public. Banks will experience a sharp reduction of profit from underwriting IPOs because the Buy-Side Institutions used to be their Preferred Clients, who bought shares of stock directly from the banks, which sold the majority of the shares to the Buy-Side Institutions well ahead of the IPO date. Banks are still used by most corporations for corporate “buybacks” of shares of a company’s public stock, but even that may end soon as new-technology financial companies, hedge funds and other firms can offer trading floor transactions instead of using the Bank of Record for buybacks. Or, the corporations may hire highly skilled traders and use AI as a means of managing buybacks. So “Wall Street,” aka giant banks and financial services, is not the force driving the huge growth of the stock market. This is an irreversible condition of an evolving global financial system. There is no “Main Street.” The millions of Americans who trade or invest in stocks are not one mindless group all behaving the same way. Each group trades and invests in a totally different way. This affects how stock prices move. Retail Long Term Investors. The SEC estimates about 70 million FAMILIES have invested in the stock market. As long-term investors, they are usually profitable. They have experience and some basic market knowledge. Retail Traders. This group is mostly trying to day trade, so they lose more money than any other group. They are largely gamblers and speculators with minimal market experience. Semi-Professional Traders. These individuals Trade as a Business full-time, similarly to independent professional traders. They have IRS business status for tax purposes. Smaller Funds Managers. These companies or individuals work with less than $3 billion in assets under management to as small as $100,000. They are considered “retail” as they lack experience or knowledge and tend to react to news similarly. They are no longer required to file SEC reports. MEME stock trading groups. This is a large group of higher-income younger-generation investors and traders who follow a retail-side guru. They trade the same “meme” stocks all at once to move the market deliberately in huge swings of price. Stock Market Cycle of Market Participants from TechniTrader® Thinking in terms of “us” vs. “them” is not the right attitude for successful trading in the financial markets. With a better understanding of the market participants–their goals, knowledge level, hold duration, how they trade, etc.–a well-educated trader or investor can identify when they are active and follow the market participant that best aligns with their goals. This is why I created the stock analysis method called “Relational Technical Analysis,” which is based on the Cycle of Market Participants. Visit my website to learn more.
